Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Nommo is a voice dictation application for macOS, developed and operated by Nommo LLC (“Nommo,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a Rhode Island limited liability company.

Nommo is built on a local-first architecture. All voice processing, transcription, and text cleanup happen entirely on your Mac using on-device machine learning models. No audio, transcript, or dictation content is ever transmitted to our servers or any third party. We designed it this way on purpose, and this policy explains what that means in practice.

This Privacy Policy applies to the Nommo desktop application and the marketing website at getnommo.com. By using Nommo or visiting our website, you agree to the terms described here. If you have questions, contact us at support@getnommo.com.

2. The Nommo Application

2.1 What We Do Not Collect

The following categories of data are never collected, transmitted, or stored on any external server by the Nommo application:

  • Voice audio or microphone input
  • Transcriptions or cleaned text output
  • Names or identifiers of applications you dictate into
  • Custom dictionary contents
  • Recording timestamps, duration, or frequency of use
  • Usage analytics, behavioral data, or telemetry of any kind
  • Crash reports (opt-in crash reporting may be introduced in a future version with explicit consent)
  • Device hardware identifiers or fingerprints
  • IP addresses (the app does not phone home)

This is not a policy choice that could be reversed. It is an architectural fact. The Nommo application contains no code paths that transmit voice, text, or behavioral data off your device.

2.2 What the App Does Transmit

The Nommo application makes exactly two types of network requests, both over HTTPS:

License key validation. When you activate a license or launch the app with an existing license, Nommo sends a request to the Lemon Squeezy License API (api.lemonsqueezy.com) containing your license key and a device instance name (your Mac’s hostname, truncated to 32 characters). This is used solely to verify your purchase and enforce the 3-device activation limit. No audio, transcript, dictionary, or behavioral data is included in this request. If you are offline, the app uses a cached validation result for up to 30 days.

Update checks. Nommo uses the open-source Sparkle framework to check for software updates. Approximately once per day, the app fetches an XML file (appcast.xml) from getnommo.com to determine whether a newer version is available. This request contains standard HTTP headers (your IP address and a user-agent string identifying the Sparkle version). No personal data, license key, or usage information is included. You can disable automatic update checks in the Sparkle preferences.

2.3 Local Data Storage

Nommo stores the following data locally on your Mac:

  • License key and activation metadata — stored in the macOS Keychain under the service name com.getnommo.nommo.license. This includes the license key string, the instance ID returned by Lemon Squeezy, and a timestamp of last successful validation.
  • Trial start timestamp — stored in the macOS Keychain under com.getnommo.nommo.trial.started. Used to calculate the remaining trial period.
  • Application preferences — stored in macOS UserDefaults. Includes your chosen hotkey, formatting preferences, and a launch counter used for trial integrity.
  • Custom dictionary — stored in a SQLite database at ~/.nommo/dictionary.db. Contains terms, pronunciation hints, and frequency data you have entered. This file never leaves your machine.
  • ML models — downloaded from Hugging Face on first launch and cached in the standard macOS ML model cache directory. These are publicly available open-source models (Whisper large-v3-turbo and Qwen 2.5 1.5B), not proprietary to Nommo.

All local data can be removed by deleting the Nommo application and the ~/.nommo/ directory. License credentials can be removed from Keychain Access.

3. The Nommo Website (getnommo.com)

3.1 Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. Plausible is a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics service hosted in the EU. It does not use cookies, does not collect personally identifiable information, does not track users across sites, and does not build advertising profiles. Plausible stores no data in your browser. Your IP address is used transiently to determine approximate geographic location (country level) and is then discarded. It is never stored, logged, or shared.

We track aggregate page views, referral sources, and clicks on download and purchase buttons. We do not track individual visitors or build user profiles.

3.2 Cookies

The Nommo website does not set any cookies. We do not use tracking pixels, fingerprinting, localStorage for analytics, or any other client-side tracking mechanism.

3.3 Payment Processing

When you purchase Nommo, you are directed to a checkout page hosted by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects and processes your payment information (name, email, billing address, payment method) directly. This data is governed by Lemon Squeezy’s Privacy Policy. Nommo does not receive, store, or have access to your credit card number or billing address. We receive only: your email address, the license key issued to you, the country of purchase, and any UTM attribution parameters passed through the checkout URL (these identify the marketing channel, not you personally).

4. Third-Party Services

Nommo interacts with the following third-party services. No other third-party services receive data from the Nommo application or website.

  • Lemon Squeezy (Merchant of Record) — processes payments, issues license keys, handles refunds, and manages tax compliance. Receives payment PII during checkout. The Nommo app sends only the license key and device hostname for activation and validation. Privacy Policy.
  • Plausible Analytics (Website Analytics) — receives anonymous page view events from getnommo.com. No cookies, no PII, no cross-site tracking. Data Policy.
  • GitHub (Software Distribution) — hosts the Nommo DMG download as a GitHub Release. Standard GitHub access logs apply to download requests. Privacy Statement.
  • Hugging Face (Model Distribution) — hosts the open-source ML models Nommo downloads on first launch. Standard Hugging Face access logs apply to model download requests. Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel (Website Hosting) — hosts getnommo.com. Standard web server access logs apply. Privacy Policy.

5. Data Processing Guarantees

We make the following commitments regarding your data:

  • No training on your data.Your voice, transcripts, and dictionary are never used to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any machine learning model — ours or anyone else’s. The models Nommo uses are pre-trained open-source models that run unchanged on your device.
  • No server retention. There is no Nommo server that stores your content. The only external services that receive any data from the app are Lemon Squeezy (license key only) and getnommo.com (update check only).
  • No advertising. We do not sell, share, or otherwise provide your data to advertisers, data brokers, or marketing platforms.
  • No profiling. We do not build behavioral profiles, track your usage patterns, or use personal data for automated decision-making.

If we ever introduce features that transmit data from the app (such as opt-in crash reporting), we will update this policy before the feature is released and will require explicit opt-in consent. Core data processing guarantees (no voice/transcript transmission, no training on user data) will not change without prominent prior notice and a new version release.

6. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

  • Right of access — request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data.
  • Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data.
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — object to our processing of your data.
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

In practice, because the Nommo application does not collect or transmit personal data, most of these rights apply only to data held by Lemon Squeezy (your purchase record and email). To exercise rights related to purchase data, contact Lemon Squeezy directly through your customer portal or email their support. For any questions about Nommo-specific data practices, contact us at support@getnommo.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Your Rights Under CCPA

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • Right to know — what personal information we collect and how we use it.
  • Right to delete — request deletion of personal information we hold.
  • Right to opt out of sale — we do not sell personal information. There is nothing to opt out of.
  • Right to non-discrimination — we will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

We do not sell, share, or disclose personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. The Nommo application does not collect personal information as defined by the CCPA. Purchase-related data is held by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record.

8. Children’s Privacy

Nommo is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@getnommo.com and we will take steps to delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — in particular, any change that introduces new data collection from the Nommo application — we will provide prominent notice (such as an in-app notification or a notice on getnommo.com) before the change takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised.

Continued use of Nommo or getnommo.com after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
